Searching for a free virtual number for SMS or OTP? Why free numbers usually fail, and how to get a private SMS virtual number paid in naira.
Updated October 2026
Quick answerFree virtual numbers for SMS are shared with thousands of people. Most apps, including WhatsApp, Telegram and TikTok, have already blocked them, and anyone can read your code on the public page. A private number costs a small fee, works for one person only, and on Plugg your money goes back to your wallet if no code arrives.
Step by step
- Open Plugg and pick the app you need a code for.
- Choose a country. USA and UK numbers deliver best for WhatsApp.
- Pay in naira from your Plugg wallet.
- Type the number into the app and the SMS code shows on your Plugg screen.
- No code? Cancel, and the money goes back to your wallet.
Free numbers vs a private number
- Free numbers: the code is shown on a public page anyone can open.
- Free numbers: apps block them quickly, so most never receive the code.
- Free numbers: someone else can log in with the same number after you.
- Private number: only you see the code, and it is not reused for that app.
- Private number on Plugg: automatic refund to your wallet if no code arrives.
